More of What’s New at Family Search
Family Search is continuing to grow its website. So I share two tools that are often overlooked when using this website. But they are gold when it comes to genealogy. These new at Family Search tools help you move forward in your genealogy journey and can connect you with others who are doing the same.
Family Search Communities
Do you love using forums to get answers for your genealogy journey? Are you a member of many genealogy Facebook groups? Then this tool is for you! The Communities tool is a forum specifically for Family Search members. They just did a face lift on the whole page and it looks better than ever.
All you do to find this community is go to the Help button in the top right corner, which looks like a question mark. Click on it then scroll all the way to the bottom where it says Community. This will take you to the forum page where you can join any group you want and get your questions answered.
I joined the Nordic Countries Genealogy Research Group and it’s a pretty fun group. It’s very well staffed with Family History Library workers who know their Nordic stuff. I help out once in a while with translation questions and it keeps me on my language toes.
Getting Started Page
This page allows plenty of opportunity to get started with family history research or activities. To get here, you once again click on the help icon button and then click on Getting Started with Your Family History.
Then you pick what activity you want to do such as Make Family Discoveries, Start Your Genealogy, Save Family Memories, or Search Historical Records. All of this is intended for you to connect with your family past or present. It’s easy and fun at the same time.
Conclusion
Family Search is more than just searching for historical records. Their main focus is about family connection. So whatever it takes to make family history fun and productive is what they do.
So go check out these new features for yourself and play with your family history a little!
And as always…good luck and happy hunting!
